INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro police say two robbers held two Indianapolis auto parts store workers at gunpoint for 20 minutes. Police are now turning to the public for help in the case.
On Sundays, O'Reilly auto parts store in the 3400 block of East Raymond Street opens at 9 a.m. But when workers opened the doors for business, two robbers were waiting.
In-store security video shows one of the two robbers armed with a handgun. The gunman led both workers to the back of the store while the other robber watched the front door to make sure no customers walked in on the robbery. Police said the robbers wanted the money in the safe.
"They said that they were going to kill them if they didn't give them the money. And they were very upset that the timed safe didn't open up the first time and when it didn't again, they waited 20 minutes for it to finally open up. After it opened up, they took all the money out of the safe and they fled the scene," said IMPD robbery detective Bill Cincebox.
Police said when the robbers left the store, they took the store security tape. But they didn't realize that it also recorded onto the hard drive.
Detective Cincebox said he can't connect the two suspects to similar crimes but he wants to get them off the streets.
"What makes me nervous is that they kept these guys at gunpoint for 20 minutes waiting for the safe to open up. So, I am afraid they are going to hurt somebody," said Detective Cincebox.
Anyone with information regarding the case should call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
