INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The trucking industry says its drivers log more than 415 billion miles a year. So, naturally, they're concerned about fuel economy. That's why members of the industry visited the Auto Research Center in Indianapolis .

The facility is better known for testing race cars but its expertise has applications to other vehicles.

"Here, we're doing the same thing. We're looking for efficiency. The only difference is that -- in racing -- the clock is the effective marker. Here, we're looking for fuel efficiency," said Henri Kowalczyk of the Auto Research Center.

That might come from placing skirts around a truck's wheels or adjusting the space between the cab and its trailer.
