INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The buzzword these days seems to be "repair". The nation elected
Barack Obama to repair the economy and Americans are now more
repair-minded than they've been in decades.
Toby Trump said his business at Castleton Auto Repair is up
25-percent over this time last year. He feels that it's essentially
recession-proof.
"The business picked up when the economy went south. And then we
figured when it comes back on its feet, we'll be working on the
used cars people trade in," said Trump.
Carol Couch said the repair business is also up at Exciting
Lighting in Nora. Since the recession, more people have been
getting lamps and lighting fixed rather than buying new things.
"People are saving what they have and they're restoring it.
That's a very good thing," said Couch.
In short, if done right, repair spells success. Still, even the
repair businesses are hoping the new administration will mend
things.
"He has the tools to do it with, if he can just get Congress
behind him. You know, it's like repairing a lamp. If you've got the
tools and the equipment to do it with, then just go ahead and let
the person repair it. Let him do it," said Couch.
A WISHTV.com poll conducted Wednesday asked whether President
Obama's Tuesday night speech to Congress reassured confidence in
the economy. Sixty-seven percent of voters said "No", while 32
percent said "Yes".
The president apparently has more work to do in Indiana.
