SEYMOUR, Ind. (WISH) - New jobs are coming to Jackson County, as Columbus-based Cummins plans to expand its Seymour facility.
The company announced Tuesday a $219 million investment that will add a warehouse, office building and new manufacturing facility. In all, Cummins anticipates adding up to 290 jobs by 2015.
Gov. Mitch Daniels traveled to Seymour for Tuesday’s announcement.
"Cummins continues an impressive expansion in the Hoosier State and much of that stems from the strong international demand for products designed and built right here in Indiana," Daniels said in a news release. "Once again, words cannot describe how thankful we are for Cummins and the investment it is making in the Seymour community."
Cummins’ Seymour plant currently employs around 525 people. The company has more than 7,800 workers around Indiana.
The announcement comes with a $250,000 training grant from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The company can’t claim the grant until Hoosiers are hired. Cummins may also get property tax abatements from local authorities.
Cummins manufactures diesel engines sold in the U.S. and internationally.
