VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - The Midwest's unseasonably mild winter is fueling a surge of business at a northern Indiana city's golf courses.
Valparaiso Golf Course Manager Rich Frey tells The Times of Munster that the average number of rounds played on the city's courses in January is four. But Frey said so far this year there's been 400 rounds played at the courses, causing a spike in revenue.
Golfers have taken advantage of mild readings in the 40s and 50s the past two months to play at Creekside Golf Course and use its driving range.
Frey said use of the course's range was triple what it was last year, and rounds of golf quadrupled from last year.
