INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Mechanics at O'Brien Toyota received the first shipment of parts Wednesday morning to start fixing millions of recalled vehicles.

"We will have parts arriving daily. They are trying to accommodate every dealer in the country. It's just going to be a little bit of a process to get everybody taken care of," said General Manager Skip Walters.

The part is called a reinforcement bar. It's a square piece of metal about the size of a nickel.

Fixing the accelerator pedal problem takes about 30 minutes. Mechanics remove the pedal from the recalled vehicle; carefully measure the space where the metal reinforcement bar will be placed and then select a bar that will fit the space.

The bar comes in seven different thicknesses. The mechanic inserts the bar into the slot and then reattaches the pedal into the vehicle ( Click here to watch a Toyota being repaired ).

Walters expects the next few weeks will be busy ones for his service department. Now that the dealership has the parts to fix the recalled vehicles, he expects a flood of customers.

"Customers will be very happy with the resolution and in the long run people will be loyal to the brand."

According to Toyota, anyone that experiences issues with their accelerator pedal should contact a local dealer right away and schedule an appointment. For those that are not experiencing any issues with their pedal, Toyota is confidant their vehicle is safe to drive.
