Shoppers head to the stores to find deals for Black Friday

Retailers are hoping deals will lure people in

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - As early as midnight Friday morning, thousands of shoppers hit the stores to take advantage of Black Friday shopping deals. Toys R Us expected big crowds when the doors opened at midnight. They had dozens of people waiting in line when the doors opened.

Shoppers with lists in hand, and gifts on their mind.

If you don't expect it you're crazy" said shopper Kelly Gough. "Guitar Hero DS, DSI a little bit of everything. If we get it, we get it. If we don't, we don't."

But some won't confess which was their best bargain of the morning.

"Can't say. It'd give a Christmas secret away," Dean Adler said.

With the large crowds, employees used a bit of gentle crowd control to keep everyone in line.

"Because after someone stands in line for a couple of hours, they don't want anyone cutting in front of them. So I take care of that," said Toys R Us employee, Tammi Jessep.

“We've been standing in line for checkout for about an hour already and probably have a good hour to go still,” said Jessica Mooring.

Across town at the Best Buy in Castleton they also saw huge crowds when they opened their doors at 5 a.m.

Best Buy uses a ticket system to help keep crowds under control. They also provide maps to customers to help them find what they want to buy faster.

Big ticket items like big screen TVs were rolling out the door. Customers said most of them saved several hundred dollars.

It's worth it. I didn't sleep very well last night just to wake up for my first Black Friday but it's worth it,” Egles Gonzalez said.

Most shoppers all agree, getting up early and dealing with Black Friday shoppers is worth it in the end.

“Oh yes. To see the joy on my two four year olds' face when they open [their gifts],” Mooring said.

Most Central Indiana stores will be open until 10 p.m. Friday night. Many will also open their doors early on Saturday morning.
