INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police say one person was shot at the Shoe Carnival on Lafayette Road Friday night.
Officers were called to the Shoe Carnival located at 4615 Lafayette Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday to the report of a gunshot.
Police say a store security officer had detained a man who was trying to steal shoes. Witnesses told police employees heard a loud bang and commotion. That's when they saw the suspect running from the back of the store with one hand handcuffed to a chair. The suspect was running towards the front doors that were locked.
The suspect was unable to get through the doors, so he ran toward the back of the store and out the back door.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the back of the business. He was taken to IU Health methodist Hospital in serious condition.
The suspect was caught by an off-duty officer and bitten by a K-9 officer. He was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital's detention unit with minor injuries.
The suspect faces preliminary charges of theft and resisting arrest. Additional charges are expected.
The Shoe Carnival worker was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.
Officers are still investigating this incident.
