SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - An anonymous tip led to a police chase, drug bust, and arrest of two people in Shelbyville Saturday afternoon.
According to our partners at the Shelbyville News, a person called police after seeing a drug transaction take place on East Mechanic Street.
Officers arrested Michael Gilbert Jones, 39, and James Robert Eikman, 26, after locating a drug known as Suboxone, a level III controlled substance.
Police tried to conduct a traffic stop. Officers say they asked Jones if he could search the vehicle and Jones advised he did not think it would be a good idea because he was a convicted felon for dealing drugs. Jones then sped away from the scene, crashing his vehicle into a mini-van.
Jones continued trying to flee from police, driving on West Mechanic Street despite a flat tire. Jones turned into an alley between St. Mary Street and Miller Street and left his vehicle, traveling on foot and running into an apartment on West Mechanic Street.
After 10 minutes inside the apartment Jones came outside and was arrested.
Jones was arrested and charged with dealing of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of Charles Major Manor, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Eikman was arrested and charged with dealing of a Level III substance and possession of a controlled substance.
