4 Ind. officers serve suspensions for violations

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne's police chief says four of his officers were suspended last month for policy lapses that included one officer who lacked a valid driver's license.

Chief Rusty York told the city's Board of Public Safety on Monday that each of the disciplined officers received between one and three days of unpaid suspension time.

The Journal Gazette reports that one 27-year department veteran received a one-day suspension for not having a valid driver's license and not wearing a seat belt. Those violations were discovered after the officer was involved in an on-duty crash.

Another officer received a three-day suspension for violating the department's firearms and use-of-force policy. That officer violated those rules by firing a warning shot in the air outside a restaurant to break up a fight.
