INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The father of an Indianapolis boy who confronted four burglars inside their west side home said the 12-year-old is a little shaken up.
Daron Croom, 18, Damon Swift, 20, John Easley, 20 and a 17-year-old juvenile are facing several charges including burglary. Police said they robbed the boy Monday afternoon inside his home.
"The child called his mother and said someone was breaking into his house," said Sgt. Vince Huber with IMPD.
The robbery happened just after two o'clock in the 6000 block of Ruskin Place.
Investigators said the suspects broke into the boy's house and one of the suspects pulled a gun on him.
"He's a little traumatized. Who wouldn't be traumatized at that age and come home with a gun pointed in your face?" asked the boy's father.
A neighbor called 911 with a description of the suspects' getaway vehicle.
"Detectives observed the suspects in the vehicle. Shortly after, uniformed officers joined with them," Sgt. Huber said.
A short chase took officers through several west side neighborhoods to I-465 just north of 10th Street. Police said the chase ended back on the interstate, where two of the suspects were arrested.
The victim's father said he's shocked the suspects could be so bold.
"I shouldn't have to come home and go through stuff like this. I work hard everyday. Me and my girl work hard. We're just trying to live the right way and positive way," he said.
The boy's father said he's fortunate his son was not hurt. He said he hopes the crime brings his neighborhood together.
"Everybody hang out so we can get to know each other and look out for each other so this won't happen to nobody…because I don't want this to happen to nobody," he said.
Two of the suspects led officers on a foot chase. One of them was taken to Wishard Hospital after he was bitten by a K-9 officer.
