MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Investigators in northwestern Indiana say an 80-year-old teacher was killed in her home and police were searching for her missing car.

The Lake County coroner's office says Anna Schulz was pronounced dead Wednesday night at her Merrillville home and suffered neck trauma. Gary school officials said Schulz taught students with mild disabilities at Lew Wallace High School and had been a teacher with the district about 30 years.

The Post-Tribune reports Schulz was a widow who lived with one her sons, who neighbors said discovered her body after returning home from work.

Gary schools special education director Edmund Fraire tells The Times of Munster that Schulz had joked at the end of the school year about retiring but that she simply wasn't ready yet.
