An Indianapolis man is in jail on attempted murder charges in connection with a stabbing in Brownsburg. Friday night Brownsburg Police had the help of Indianapolis Metro Police to make the arrest.
Police say someone stabbed 34-year-old Jarrod Wilson at a home he shared with his parents on Sycamore Street in Brownsburg.
"It appears that he was stabbed in this residence multiple times and then walked down by a nearby residence and that's where he collapsed on a porch," explained Capt. Jeff Gray with the Brownsburg Police department.
That's when a neighbor heard his cries for help.
"I got home about 7:30, quarter till 8 and was putting my dog out and he was over in that driveway and he yelled help me, I've been stabbed," the neighbor said. "After he yelled help me, I think I saw the guy that did it. He was over there between these two houses."
Wilson told police who stabbed him before he went into surgery at Wishard. Brownsburg officers called IMPD to check out the address of 31-year-old Hezekiah Colbert. Officers spotted Colbert on the south side of Indianapolis and after a short chase they arrested him.
Friday night Brownsburg police officers were tied up with the initial parts of the investigation. They worked through the night. By Saturday morning, they even had a motive.
Officers say Wilson and his wife are going through a divorce. The possibility of a reconciliation was not something Colbert wanted, because he was seeing Wilson's wife.
"She wants to get back with her husband and he didn't take it very well and supposedly made the threat that he would kill and actually took the steps to try and carry it out," Capt Gray said.
Neighbors say they are relieved there's an arrest, "Nothing like this has ever happened around here. Most of the time its maybe a traffic ticket or something. but nothing like this."
Brownsburg Police have filed attempted murder charges on Colbert. He will also face charges in Indianapolis. Metro Police Officers arrested Colbert on resisting arrest and criminal recklessness.
Paramedics took the victim, Jarrod Wilson, to Wishard Hospital in serious but stable condition.
