INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IMPD robbery detectives are looking for some cash-strapped
criminals who went after an ATM, the entire ATM, and they got away
with it.
Officers now need your help to track down three criminals who
used a pickup truck to pick up an ATM. It was all caught on tape.
Minutes before the robbery, it was business as usual at the
Indy Food Mart at Massachusetts and Rural. Customers came and went.
But then, around 2:48 Saturday morning a red pickup truck backed up
to the store.
Seconds later, a masked man wearing a hooded trench coat
walked inside. He had some sort of discussion with the store owner
then opened the front door for his buddy.
While the first suspect pulls out a gun and points it at the
store owner, the second suspect kneels down next to the ATM and
wraps a strap around the machine.
"To take that amount of weight you had to have an apparatus
that was capable of handling it. So that tells me they had a little
bit of planning in that regard," IMPD officer Chris Wilburn said.
The store's surveillance video caught the robbery on tape
from several angles. The camera outside the store caught the pickup
truck pulling forward and then ripping the ATM out of the store.
Before leaving, the suspects throw the ATM onto the truck bed.
When you slow down the video you can see one of the suspects
sitting in the back of the truck next to the ATM. The long strap
trailed behind as the pick-up drove east on Massachusetts Avenue.
"It just tells you the depths people will go to. This was
well orchestrated and well planned," Wilburn said.
They were in, hooked up and gone in less than 60 seconds.
Detectives found the ATM 12 hours after the robbery. It was
found in an alley on the 1300 block of Ewing Street.
