Mom brutally beaten in home while kids slept

GREENTOWN, Ind. (WISH) - A mother of three is in critical condition after being brutally beaten in her home, while her children slept.

It happened in the Howard County town of Greentown, which only has a few thousand people.

Jamie D. Harney, 26, was found unconscious and bleeding by her three small children at around 7 a.m. Friday morning.

Harney’s children ran to a nearby neighbor’s house and told the woman that lived there what happened. She quickly called 911.

"We had a deputy within a couple blocks of that address when the emergency call went out," said Howard County Sheriff Marty Talbert.

Harney was rushed by ambulance to Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo and later transferred by Life Line Helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Sheriff Talbert told 24-Hour News 8 Harney had surgery Friday afternoon.  She is still listed in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon. Her husband was out of town when the attack occurred, but he is now by her side. Their children are with relatives.

Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technicians are assisting with the investigation.

Investigators there would like to hear from anyone who observed Jamie Harney’s activities on Thursday.
