Attorneys on both sides zeroed in on experts Wednesday, each making points to the judge on forensics.

Forensics and autopsy reports are just part of the body of evidence produced during the course of the trial.

Mid-morning the focus shifted as Detective Leslie Van Buskirk took the stand. She was the lead detective assigned to the case. Buskirk talked about search warrants and interviews.

A 24-Hour News 8 interview conducted with the defendant Desmond Turner in 2006, was entered into evidence. Turner talked exclusively with News 8 after his arrest.

Detective Van Buskirk explained to the court how the investigative process began with the search for Desmond Turner and James Stewart.

She detailed how detectives moved forward on the case putting information together as more information came in.

But Wednesday afternoon, testimony centered around bullets and guns used to commit the crime.

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said, “Here’s a critical part and it came at the end, that a live 7.62 bullet was found at Michelle Clifton’s house bears the same tool marks as four of the spent casings found at 560 North Hamilton.”

The defense is expected to present its case beginning on Thursday. The case could wrap up as early as Friday.
