Richard Dildine, 38, is charged with domestic battery and criminal confinement in a 3 1/2 hour attack on his 80-year-old grandmother Edna.
Authorities said he lived with her in a home on North Kivett Road in Monrovia.
"It's sad to hear and a shame to see that happen around here," said D.J. Edwards, a Monrovia resident.
24-Hour News 8 asked to talk with Morgan County authorities, but they didn't want to do an interview on camera.
24-Hour News 8 did get a copy of the police report filed in the case. The report said Dildine told police that on September 14 while at work, he drank, "two pints of vodka, a 12-pack of Heineken and also took four Lortab, six Vicodin and four Klonopin."
His grandmother also told police that when he got home around 1:30 a.m. the next day, he dragged her out of bed, grabbed the stun gun on her nightstand and threatened to kill her while stunning her about 100 times on the brain, throat, ribs and arms among other places.
Authorities said after the ordeal, Dildine hugged his grandmother and said he was going to bed.
That's when she escaped. For Monrovia residents, especially older ones, they say that what happened between the Dildines is a sign of a generational divide.
"It's terrible! What's going on with these older people and these younger people going crazy, family, especially family," said Patty Petty, a Morgan County resident.
"I think he ought to be shot with a gun not a Taser. Like I say, this world is coming to a fast end, really. 'Cause there's too much stuff going on that we can't explain," added her husband Ron Petty.
A neighbor said Edna Dildine has been treated and is safe with other relatives. Richard Dildine is known among residents for past drug problems. He's being held in the Morgan County Jail on $20,000 bond and already had an outstanding DOC violation for home detention.
