INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro detectives have made an arrest in a home invasion robbery that ended with one man dead and his nephew shot in the hand.

24-Hour News 8 learned Fidel Vega, 20, turned himself into police at around 4:45 p.m. He faces a preliminary charge of murder, robbery, felony battery, and carrying a handgun with a license.

Police also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting in the 4600 block of Crestview Avenue at around 10:45 a.m.

When police arrived on the scene they found 35-year-old Nate Douglas lying inside the front door. Family members said he was a diabetic and he was also blind. Douglas’ 19-year-old nephew, Adrian Edmond, was also inside. He had been shot in the hand and was taken to Wishard Hospital in good condition.

One neighbor told 24-Hour News 8 off camera she saw a car pull up to the house. She said several people were inside the car.

The eye witness who didn’t want to be identified told 24-Hour News 8 she felt like something wasn’t right.

“The car it was a green Taurus. It went down three to four times. I didn’t realize what was going on until my sister, until she said, they’re running. When she said they’re running we knew something had happened. By that time they had ran and jumped in the car and took off,” said the unidentified woman.

Cheryl Boyd, the victim’s mother, was at work when she was told her son had been shot. She told 24-Hour News 8 she didn’t know her son had been killed until she arrived home.

Police are still investigating this case. If you have any information please call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
