INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man has pleaded guilty to murder in the death of a toddler police say he beat to death .
There was a little drama inside the courtroom before 19-year-old Tayuan Chism finally entered his guilty plea.
Chism had no comment while being taken back into custody after entering his plea Friday afternoon.
Chism was arrested and charged with beating to death 15-month-old Lilliana Goodman, the child of his girlfriend.
Police said Chism he hit the toddler 50 times with a belt after she wouldn’t eat her food last March .
The girl was on life support for two days before dying.
Chism’s mom was escorted out of the courtroom after reportedly raising a big ruckus, asking Chism not to plead guilty. Initially, he pleaded not guilty, but later changed his mind.
The guilty plea deal means Chism has waived his right to a jury trial. He faces 65 years with 10 of those years suspended.
His sentencing date has been set for Friday, February 5 at 9:30 a.m.
