INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - 24-Hour News 8 is learning more about the man police are holding in a deadly hit-and-run accident.

Metro police believe John Daugherty was the driver who killed a 6-month-old girl last week.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Adrianne Marlette's mother and her boyfriend were walking with Adrianne in her stroller.

A car struck Adrianne and her mother's friend. Adrianne died from her injuries at Riley Hospital on Saturday.

Just hours after the accident, police recovered the car they think was involved. Monday evening, they arrested Daugherty.

Tuesday, prosecutors filed a document in court asking that Daugherty be held longer as investigators continue examining the case.

The document said a witness saw Daugherty parking his car in a lot near where the crash happened, shortly afterward. The court document said a witness saw someone drive Daugherty to his car later that day, and that he then drove off.

24-Hour News 8 researched Daugherty's driving record. It shows that he had an accident last year and received two points on his license because he didn't have insurance.

Police records show one of his relatives accused him of assaulting her earlier this year. She told police she had tried to take his keys away at a restaurant, believing he was intoxicated. She said Daugherty then grabbed her by the back of her neck and tried to pull her down.

Daugherty was not arrested, and did not face charges in that incident.

He's set to appear in court in the hit and run case Wednesday morning.
