FISHERS, Ind, (WISH) - A Fishers man is behind bars after trying to rob a couple then
leading police on a chase.
It started at around 2:15 a.m. at the Marsh 24-hour
supermarket.
According to police, a couple had been shopping at the market when they returned to their SUV and discovered a man hiding in the back.
"They were in the Marsh for about 15 to 20 minutes. When they
returned the female got behind the steering wheel in the driver"s
seat. The male party went to the rear of the SUV and lifted the
back hatch to place the groceries inside and that's where he
observed the man with a gun. The man ordered him to get into the
car. At that point the male victim yelled at the female victim to
run," said Officer Tom Weger, Fishers Police Department.
Police said during the struggle the suspect fired a shot
blowing out the back window of the SUV. Police said a 911 call from
the girlfriend alerted them to what was going on and a nearby
police officer spotted the suspect, 32-year-old Robert Harris
Junior. According to police, Harris got in his own SUV and led them
on a chase westbound on 116th Street.
The chase ended at the Sunblest Apartments when police said
Harris rammed a police car and started running on foot. Harris
tried to hide from police in an apartment. But, a police dog found
Harris in the apartment. Harris was taken to the hospital for dog
bites. No one was seriously injured.
But, police said some of this could have been prevented. The
victim's car was unlocked, so was the apartment where the suspect
hid.
