An Indianapolis man is dead after police say he was shot to death inside his east side home. Detectives said they have few leads in the case.
Metro Police surrounded the east side home looking for clues in the city's latest homicide. It happened just before 9 o'clock Saturday morning in the 2000 block of Roosevelt Avenue. Investigators said the victim was found dead inside his home.
"He had been killed with gun shot fire," said Sgt. Matt Mount with IMPD. Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Gregory Ray.
News of Ray's death spread fast in the east side neighborhood.
"With this kind of stuff happening every time you look around, not just close to home, it's everywhere. It's not just our neighborhood, it's everywhere," one neighbor explained.
"They need to get together and pray and get out this ghetto and get their lives together," another neighbor said.
Dozens of people, including Ray's family, showed up to the crime scene.
Lorenzo Moore is the victim's nephew, "Seeing my grandmother and my grandfather and all my uncles and aunts out here; it's hard, but I'm trying to stay strong because I'm thinking about his kids."
Ray leaves behind several children, including a son and a daughter. His children's mother told 24 Hour News 8 telling them about his death will be hard. "I'll just tell them, Daddy was a good father; they knew their father was loved and his son has to carry his name on," said Mother of the Ray's children.
Police said they have few leads in the deadly shooting. Investigators said they are counting on someone coming forward. "Right now we're just talking to neighbors, people that may have seen different things and seeing who they can locate who's responsible for this," said Sgt. Mount.
Family members told 24-Hour News 8 Ray was turning his life around and going back to school.
