INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A second victim has died as a result of a gruesome sword fight between relatives last week.

Right now, 39-year-old Chris Rondeau is facing only one murder charge. But metro police said that could all change after his uncle, 69-year-old Adof Stegbauer, died Monday from complications related to a stab wound.

Stegbauer’s the second person to die from what police said started out as an argument at a home in the 5200 block of North Raceway Road at around 1 a.m. on April 9. Investigators said Rondeau called 911 to report a gruesome stabbing.

"The original call actually came from the individual we have in custody," said Sgt. Paul Thompson of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. "(Rondeau) stated that he was in a fight with his uncle and, during that fight, everyone was injured as a result."

Franziska Stegbauer, 77, tried to break up the sword fight between Adof, her brother-in-law and her grandson -- Chris Rondeau. While trying to break up the fight, Franziska was fatally stabbed.

"The investigators believe she was, in fact, struck by a sword that Mr. Rondeau had," said Sgt. Thompson.

Police said 69-year-old Adof Stegbauer was stabbed several times. He died of his injuries early Monday. Rondeau also sustained stab wounds. He was taken to Wishard Hospital in stable condition.

"You hate to see anything like this happen anywhere," said a neighbor, who did not want to be identified.

The neighbor called the incident shocking considering the family members were good neighbors.

"Kept to themselves…quiet, you know -- just the average American citizens," the neighbor said.

Investigators said they will know in 72 hours whether additional charges will be filed.
