Police investigate homicide on NE side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro police are investigating a deadly shooting on the northeast side. 

Police were called to the Hearts Landing apartment complex near 42nd and Post Road just before 10:30 Friday night.

According to officers, 24-year old Marquis Hawkins and his girlfriend were setting off fireworks in front of an apartment.

Hawkins' girlfriend told police Hawkins left to go buy more fireworks.

When he did not return Hawkins' girlfriend said she went outside and found Hawkins lying on the ground.

Medics rushed him to Wishard Hospital where he died.

Police say someone spotted an 18-year old man between 5'3''  and 5'5'' wearing a white t-shirt, running from the complex armed with a handgun.
