Detectives are following leads in Friday's triple murder on the city's east side. Investigators found the three bodies in an apartment just off 38th Street and German Church Road. So far no arrests have been made.
Police have identified the two men killed at the Cedar Ridge Apartmentsas19-year-old Devon Bledsoe and 22-year-old Jerromey Wingfield, both from Indianapolis. The female victim was identified by family members late Saturday afternoon as 21-year-Shawnice Dunlap.
Detectives are still working the case looking for leads from neighbors.
Sharon Cannon has lived on the far east side of Indianapolis for years. She's seen neighbors come and go and crime increase.
"This neighborhood is not safe anymore," Cannon said.
Community leaders believe the neighborhood ties are crucial.
"You'll find that when there's a stronger association between neighborhood associations and the people who live in the area and the law enforcement, community crime gets reduced. Unfortunately, on the far east side, there's a very transient population so those bonds aren't as strong as in other areas," explained Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.
There are businesses near is 38th Street and Post Road that have closed and some that are in the midst of closing. Reverend James Jackson says this is only part of the problem.
Cruising and congregating in parking lots along 38th Street has been a problem.
Additional officers were out Friday night, residents were happy about it.
"We were able to sleep last night. We didn't hear gunshots last night, we heard sirens. We'd rather here sirens than gun shots any day and that siren activity was to get people moving," Reverend Jackson said.
A press conference is scheduled at noon Monday at the Community Alliance offices on East 38th Street. A community meeting is also scheduled Monday to address problems.
