LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) - A two year old remains hospitalized in critical condition after someone shot her at a wedding reception. Two other women were hurt in that shooting Saturday night.

"I couldn't believe it. It's a wedding. How can someone do something like that? Come in here and shoot at a wedding," Nancy Palma said.

Shots stopped the festivities at a wedding reception at Lawrence City Park Saturday evening. Police say Francisco Ponce pulled a gun and began firing.

"I heard like two popping sounds, but since they popped a big balloon here previously, I thought it was that, so I expected to turn around and see confetti flying around but then everybody (was) screaming and turning around," Palma explained.

People are still talking about what happened Saturday evening. Even the fact that wedding guests ran after the suspect, holding him down until police could arrive.

The guests grabbed 23-year-old Jose Ponce. Police arrested him for disorderly conduct, battery and intoxication.

"Instead of them standing around they all ran toward one of the guys. They apprehended him. They started kicking him and they were holding him down until the cops got there," Palma said.

Ponce's brothers, 21-year-old Francisco and 28-year-old Isaias took off. An officer spotted Francisco not far from the crime scene.

"An on duty officer patrolling in the park was able to chase him and capture him and we found the weapon," said Lawrence Police Chief Paul Whitehead.

Francisco faces attempted murder charges and Isaias faces public intoxication charges.

Two-year old Yuridia Sosa is still in critical condition at Methodist Hospital. Doctors treated her mother, Mariela Rodriquez and Miriam Lial, for non-life threatening gun shot wounds.
