INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The trial of the man accused of trying to murder Indianapolis police officer Jason Fishburn begins Monday.

Brian Reese will be tried in Porter County, rather than Marion County, because of pre-trial publicity. Reese is charged with attempted murder after prosecutors say he shot Jason Fishburn in the head.

The shooting happened in July of 2008. Prosecutors say IMPD officers were trying to track down and connect Reese to a recent murder on the city's eastside.

Prosecutors said Fishburn chased Reese down an alley and was shot in the head. Prosecutors said Reese pulled the trigger.

In August, lawyers for Reese requested and were granted a change of venue for his trial, citing as you just mentioned heavy media coverage.

24 Hour News 8 spoke with Jason Fishburn's father, he said he wants justice to be served and agrees with the trial being moved. “Well I think it was the right thing, the family agrees with it. We understand the publicity that this case has received, and we want to make sure that all precautions are taken so that it doesn't come back on appeal, and we certainly support it,” said Dennis Fishburn.

Jury selection in Porter County begins Monday. The trial is expected to last a little bit more than a week

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said Fishburn will be his first witness.

24-Hour News 8 will be there and have the latest for you Monday at noon.
