ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - Anderson police are searching for vandals accused of terrorizing a quiet neighborhood in the Mustin subdivision early Monday morning.

Police said the vandals caused hundreds of dollars in damage to a car, lamp posts and mailboxes. City leaders said the neighborhood hasn't seen crime like this in decades.

Vandalism victim Jerry Savage had to shell out $730 to get the front and back windows on his SUV replaced.

“The windshield had a big old hole in it and it was all shoved in. It was shattered on the passenger side,” he said.

Savage had a table and chairs sitting on his front lawn that were for sale. He said the vandals used the furniture to smash the windows.

“The whole back window was shattered,” said Savage. “I opened the door and glass went everywhere, so we spent most of the day cleaning glass up.”

Neighbors said they’ve never seen widespread vandalism in the area. Police believe it was just teenagers out to cause trouble.

“I’ve been here since 1972 and we haven’t had that kind of damage here,” said neighbor and City Councilman Mike Welch. “It’s a random thing but we don’t want any more of it.”

Police said the vandals made their way around the neighborhood, smashing mailboxes and knocking over street lights. Before they left, police said they moved construction barriers and large rocks into he middle of the road to block traffic.

“If someone would have hit a rock, it could have wrecked their car. It’s a prank, but not the kind of prank we need here in Anderson,” Welch said.

Right now, police don't have any suspects. If you have any information, call the Anderson Police Department at 765-648-6730.
