Youth minister had sex with girls, 15

Police say a volunteer youth minister at a Greenwood church confessed to having sex with three 15-year-old girls.

According to police, three years ago 29-year-old Jonathan James Hartman began sexual relationships with the girls in a youth band program. The program was held at The Salvation Army in Greenwood which serves as a pantry and a church. Hartman's parents are the Salvation Army officers at the church and he was a co-youth minister.

Police say the girls had sex with Hartman at the church, at their homes and at his parents home in Indianapolis. Accoding to police, one of the 15 year olds is pregnant and Hartman is the father.

"His reaction was that he wanted her to get an abortion and he was pushing her for it. She even came up with ideas on how to terminate the pregnancy and cause a miscarriage," said Detective Scheuermann, Franklin Police Department.

She told her parents and they called police. Police say none of the parents were aware of the relationship.

"There was occasions where the suspect would take them to and from the church before band practice and also after band practice. Some of those occasions he was alone with the children and that's kind of how they were together during these times," said Det. Scheuermann.

"It's part of "Safe From Harm" training that there always be two adults with, any time there is a youth program, at least two adults. So if that was the case, yes, that was a violation," said Jeff Stanger, Salvation Army Indiana Division.

Hartman has been preliminarily charged with one count of child molesting and five counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. He's being held on a $150,000 bond.
