INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man will spend the next 15 years in prison after he was convicted following a 20-year criminal history.

United States Attorney Joseph H. Hogsett announced Friday that Roy K. Herrell, 45, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Herrell was convicted of possession a firearm as a convicted felon, according to a release.

Herrell was found to be in possession of a rifle in Oct. 2011. Authorities found Herrell also had a lengthy criminal history in Marion County.

Herrell had 12 felony convictions including theft, burglary, criminal recklessness, and resisting law enforcement.

His convictions span over 20 years.

In his sentencing, Herrell was identified as an armed career criminal, which requires a minimum of 15 years in federal prison.

At the end of his prison term, Herrell is ordered to serve five years of supervised release. He must also serve 85 percent of his sentence in prison.
