CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - A Carmel firefighter and former officer was arrested Thursday night on preliminary charges of domestic battery and criminal confinement.
Police were called to a home on the 7200 block of Harbour Isle to check on the welfare of a person, according to a police report.
A woman had called police to say she received a text message from her friend. The two had arranged a distress signal.
While officers were driving to the home, they received another call from the victim’s adult son in reference to a domestic disturbance that was happening between the victim and her husband.
When police arrived, the victim’s son said Bruce Gipson was intoxicated and was holding his mother, Billie Gipson, in the master bathroom.
Billie Gipson told police that her husband, Bruce, was intoxicated and the two were arguing about their marriage. When she would attempt to leave the bathroom, Bruce would raise his arms to block her from leaving.
She told police that at one attempt to leave, he placed his hands on her back and pushed her away from the door.
He then reportedly grabbed her from behind and placed his knee in her back.
Bruce Gipson was arrested on preliminary charges of domestic battery, battery with injury, and criminal confinement.
He had his initial court appearance Friday morning.
