Monticello, Ind. (WISH) - Today we expect to learn what prosecutors say led an Indiana man to kill his mother and 7-year-old half sister.
David Scott Rodenbarger, 20, will be in court for the initial hearing at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning where formal charges are expected to be filed.
He is suspected of killing his 7-year-old sister Jillian Haskins and his 41-year-old mother Michelle Haskins.
His mother made the call to 9-1-1 that she and her daughter were stabbed early Saturday morning. When police arrived to the home, Haskins had already died from her injuries. The 7-year-old little girl was rushed to the hospital but died a short time later.
Tuesday is the second day students will be at Woodlawn Elementary without one of the classmates where Jillian was a first grader. Faculty and staff of the Twin Lakes School Corp. are helping families in the grieving process.
“With a school corporation with a little less than 2,500 kids, things do happen,” said Tom Fletcher, superintendent of the Twin Lakes School Corp. As they have come up over the past years we’ve tried to help all we can.”
A letter went home with students Monday telling them what happened over the weekend. It also says that the school district is bringing in grief counselors to help students, faculty and staff cope with the loss.
