FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - The coach arrested for an incident with a female athlete won’t be formally charged, officials with the Hamilton County prosecutor’s office said Wednesday.
Coach Fred E. Freeman, 47, was arrested Monday on a preliminary misdemeanor battery charge after police said he punched a 17-year-old basketball player and threw her to the ground.
Officials from the prosecutor’s office said conflicting witness statements would make it difficult to prove it happened in court.
Freeman told investigators that he was simply trying to break up a fight between his daughter and the 17-year-old who accused him.
