Court upholds molester's sentence

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld a man's 20-year prison sentence for repeatedly sexually abusing a pre-teen girl.

Anthony Tyrone White had argued that his 20-year sentence was harsh because state law carries a standard 10-year sentence for people pleading guilty to child molesting.

The Star Press reports that the 45-year-old White claimed he shouldn't have been considered a credit-restricted felon because he was originally charged with a Class A felony, but pleaded guilty to a Class B felony as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Credit-restricted felons get less credit for time served than most felons.

The court rejected White's appeal last week, ruling that the facts of the case, not the felony White pleaded guilty to, qualified him for the harsher sentence imposed last July.
