INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A former Marion County Sheriff’s Department deputy was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft and ghost employment.

Donald Prout, 32, resigned as a deputy assigned to the warrants section on March 28. According to investigators, Prout had been working private security while he was supposed to be serving warrants or attending training. The loss for the Sheriff’s Department during four separate incidents of double employment was calculated $185, according to a department news release.

"I have absolutely zero-tolerance for this type of behavior," said Sheriff John Layton. " … I will continue to pursue criminal charges for any employee who violates the very laws we are sworn to protect."

Prout, who had been on administrative leave during the investigation, now faces one count of theft and three counts of ghost employment, all Class D felonies.
