SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A convicted murderer forced by public anger to move multiple times since being released from prison this fall has been arrested on parole violation charges.

An Indiana Parole Board official says 57-year-old Robert Evan Lee was arrested Tuesday and jailed in South Bend, where he had been living since moving from an Indianapolis motel.

Parole board vice chairman Randall Gentry tells The Herald-Times of Bloomington that Lee violated his parole conditions by hitchhiking although Lee told officers he was in the vehicle helping the driver with directions.

Lee was released from prison in September after serving 25 years for the 1986 killing and dismembering of 31-year-old Ellen Marks of Bloomington. Public opposition forced him to move after his release from places in Bloomington and Jennings County.
