INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A Brownsburg man is potentially facing charges for illegally shooting and killing a trophy deer near Eagle Creek Park Tuesday.
Indiana Conservation Officers say that 47-year-old Don Ward admitted to killing the deer with a .270 caliber rifle on private property near Eagle Creek Park during predawn hours.
“Area deer hunters have spent years lawfully pursuing the buck they had nicknamed ‘Nightmare,’” according to Indiana Conservation Officer Jeff Wells. Wells also said that other hunters are extremely upset that the deer was killed illegally.
Criminal charges are currently being considered in this case. Wildlife crimes are Class B misdemeanor offenses that can carry sentences of up to 180 days in jail and fines of up to $1000 per violation.
