INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Court documents reveal a confrontation occurred between a 13-year-old boy shot and killed, and the brother of the man accused of killing him.
Witnesses told police the brother of suspected shooter Glenn Beard was visiting Beard’s house when 13-year-old Jarrell Tucker and another boy tried to rob him outside Beard’s home, according to court documents. Witnesses and Beard told police Beard tried to intervene by hitting Tucker in the head.
The brother told police Beard advised him to get into his car and leave after the incident. Several witnesses said Jarrell chased after Beard's brother in the car while holding a brick. Once the car left the area, several people scattered, thinking the incident was over. Another relative of Beard’s who was in the home at the time said the boys, including Tucker, returned and were on the back porch of Beard’s home. The family member said Beard grabbed a gun and shots were fired shortly after.
Jarrell was shot on the right side of the head and his leg. He later died of his injuries.
Beard faces formal charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. In an interview with police, Beard denied shooting Jarrell or even having a gun. He did, however, say he hit the boy during the incident with Beard’s brother.
