LAFAYETTE, Ind.(WISH) - Freedom for an escaped Edinburgh Correctional inmate lasted only about nine hours.
31-year-old Jacob Aflleje reportedly stole a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer from the grounds of Camp Atturbury where he was on a work detail around 1:30 PM Monday.
Aflleje was serving a 10 year sentence out of Morgan County for Arson and was due to be released July 7.
Around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, Lafayette Police responded to a burglar alarm at Macy’s at the Tippecanoe Mall.
Shortly after officers arrived, a subject was located exiting a side door to the business.
The man held gave police a false name but was later identified as an escapee from the Edinburgh Correctional Facility.
Aflleje was arrested on a warrant for escape and also charged with false informing, burglary, attempted theft and possession of stolen property.
Lafayette police say they recovered the stolen vehicle which was tied to the escape from the work detail Aflleje had been on.
Aflleje is currently being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail without bond, with a hold for the Indiana Department of Correction.
