Ex-cop arrested in woman's killing

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) - The estranged boyfriend of a woman found dead in a Greenwood apartment earlier this month is now charged in connection with her death.

Michelle Andrews, 44, was found dead June 2 in her apartment in the 1100 block of Stonehedge Drive. Three days later, her death was ruled a homicide , and her estranged boyfriend, Michael Richards, was arrested on an unrelated probation charge .

Thursday, Greenwood Police Department arrested Richards, 44, in connection with Andrews’ death, on preliminary charges of involuntary manslaughter, a Class C felony, and aggravated battery, a Class B felony. He was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis, where he wsa staying, police said. He was being held Thursday at the Johnson County Jail on $28,000 bond.

Police records show officers had been called many times to break up fights between Richards, a former Southport police officer, and Andrews.
