INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A former Warren Central and Western Michigan University football standout was convicted Wednesday of molesting the 13-year-old daughter of his then-girlfriend.
The jury returned a split verdict Wednesday evening, convicting Mark Bonds on six counts of child molesting but finding him not guilty on several other counts, including criminal confinement and strangulation.
Bonds, 23 at the time, was arrested in September 2010 , accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. According to police reports, he assaulted the girl and told her he would kill her mother and choke her brother if she told anyone what happened.
Bonds graduated from Warren Central in 2004 and went to Western Michigan University.
Bonds was considered one of the top running back prospects in the Midwest in 2003. He became a top all-time rusher at WMU.
His sentencing is set for June 1.
