HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - The lawyer for a former Gary police officer says his client will plead guilty to federal gun and drug charges.
Attorney John Cantrell filed papers Friday in U.S. District Court saying David Finley Jr. of Merrillville will plead guilty to one count each of lying when buying a gun, selling a gun to a known felon and dealing marijuana. The Post-Tribune reports Finley's change of plea hearing is set for Wednesday.
The charges stem from an Aug. 7 incident in which an undercover informant made a deal with Finley to buy a gun for the informant, who was a felon. Finley, then 31, was observed distributing marijuana to the informant later the same day.
The FBI had Finley under investigation at the time.
