CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A Gary woman is facing up to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony neglect of a dependent in the death of her boyfriend's 5-year-old son.
The Times of Munster reports Rochell Johnson admitted as part of her plea agreement to doing nothing to help Leon Walker while he was being continuously beaten. Police said the boy begged for help.
The boy's father, 30-year-old Leon Burns, has pleaded not guilty to murder and is scheduled to next appear in Lake Criminal Court Nov. 6.
Authorities said the boy's hands and feet were bound and he died instantly from his vertebrae being separated by force from his skull.
Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 4 before Lake Criminal Court Judge Clarence Murray.
