Prostitution bust targets Fishers spa

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - Fishers police have arrested a woman at a spa on charges of prostitution. But what sets this story apart is who called the cops and where the spa is located.

The Thai Spa is at 11079 Village Square Lane in Fishers - near a daycare center. But Wednesday, the “OPEN” sign at The Thai Spa, also known as Thai Style Massage, was turned off - and it could be that way for a while. Police busted the business Tuesday for unlawful activity inside.

“We’ve been getting complaints from other business owners in the area of suspicious activity,” Fishers Officer Tom Weger said.

One of those complaining was Lori Oliver, owner of nearby God's Miles Nursery and Pre-School.

"I just wanted to make sure the children were safe," she told 24-Hour News 8.

Investigators said area businesses had complained that several men had mistaken their businesses for the massage parlor. After a three-week investigation, including setting up surveillance, police moved in.

“They sent an undercover officer in [Tuesday] for a massage appointment, and during the appointment the female suspect offered to perform sexual acts for money,” Weger said.

Police arrested Jinping Wang, 45, Fishers, and she has been charged with prostitution, a Class A misdemeanor.

“We kind of figured it, but we weren’t really sure,” said a Fishers resident who identified herself as Kim, but didn’t want to give her last name. She works next to the business and told me she would see men only walking in and out of the business.

“One car at a time. And they would just sit out there,” she said. When they did go in, she said, “they didn’t stay in there very long. So I imagine they took care of business and left real quick.”

Oliver said she will be following up with her landlord to make sure there is a clause in her lease that states there's not to be adult entertainment anywhere near the premises.

And police have a warning for other business owners thinking of adding illegal services: “We will investigate any allegations and concerns from the public,” Weger said.

Prostitution arrests are rare in Fishers. The last on record was in July 2007, when investigators arrested a woman accused of soliciting sex for money at a Fishers hotel. Police found the woman by way of an ad for "Massage Services" on Craigslist.

As for the suspect, police are investigating if she could be a victim of human trafficking.  And more arrests are possible, as Fishers police said they believe several people were involved in this prostitution ring. During the investigation, detectives also discovered client information, police said, and those people could also face charges.
