INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Mark Bonds appeared in court Wednesday morning without a lawyer, and he will be back in court again Thursday morning.
Bonds is the former Warren Central football standout who is behind bars on charges that he raped a 13-year-old girl.
He is being held without bond, as the state takes more time to file official charges against him.
According to the police reports, 23-year-old Mark Bonds assaulted the girl and told her that he would kill her mother and choke her brother if she told anyone what happened.
In one assault, the victim told officers she was trying to get her brother ready for school and off to the bus stop when Bonds locked the girl inside. She told officers she struggled with Bonds, kicking him in the face. Police say Bonds choked the victim as he attacked her.
Police say this isn’t the first case they’ve filed involving Bonds and the same girl. Bonds is alleged to have attacked the girl back in November. But, her mother says she recanted.
"I'm angry. Who wouldn't be? I love my kids," the mother told 24 Hour News 8's Brad Edwards .
Bonds graduated from Warren Central in 2004 and went to Western Michigan University.
Bonds was considered one of the top running back prospects in the Midwest in 2003. He became a top 10 all-time rusher at WMU.
