FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne police say officers chasing a man suspected of robbing a pharmacy fatally shot the man after noticing he was armed.
The Journal Gazette reports officers sent to the pharmacy about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday saw a man matching the description of the robbery suspect running from the store and ran after him.
Officer John Chambers says in a statement that officers fired at the man when they noticed during the chase that he was armed.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Police are withholding the man's name, pending notification of his relatives.
The officers involved in the shooting also have not been identified by police.
The shooting is being reviewed by the Fort Wayne Police Department and Allen County's prosecutor's and coroner's office.
