FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) - A Franklin Police officer is facing criminal charges after allegedly inappropriately touching a female informant.
24-Hour News 8 has been following Officer Bryan Burton's run-ins with the law since March. Back then he was placed on a 45 day suspension and demoted for allegedly drinking on the job and giving alcohol to underage informants.
The most recent incident includes two charges of battery and official misconduct. Both are misdemeanors.
The Probable Cause affidavit outlines the allegations make against Burton.
A state police investigator says Burton was working with a female confidential informant last June.
The woman agreed to take part in a drug sting operation.
Police say as Burton was taping a recording device to the woman's genital area he touched and manipulated the woman's genital piercing.
According to WISH-TV’s news gathering partners at the Johnson Daily Journal, state police investigators spent 50-60 hours interviewing witnesses, including Burton's partner who was present at the time.
A special prosecutor assigned to the case filed the charges.
No court date has been set.
