FWCS investigating bus driver for hitting student

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A bus driver with Fort Wayne Community Schools was suspended indefinitely on Tuesday after, according to a police report, evidence illustrated he may have hit a child across the face while dropping students off at home on Monday afternoon.

A police report was filed by the parents of a 5-year-old boy who rides the bus on Tuesday.

According to the report, the 5-year-old was picked up by his father. The father approached the driver who told him there had been an incident on the bus. The driver said the boy has his feet in the bus aisle and was kicking.

The driver apparently told the father he went back to correct the boy and while doing so "may have hit him."

The parents contacted the school and spoke with the driver's supervisor who asked them to not pursue any action until the tape from the bus could be reviewed.

Once the tape was reviewed, it apparently did show that the driver did "make contact" with the boy. The driver was then suspended indefinitely.

FWCS officials confirmed they are investigating the incident and that the driver has been suspended pending the results of the investigation.
