CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A Gary man's death penalty trial is scheduled to begin Monday, five years after he was accused of killing his wife and two stepchildren.

Forty-seven-year-old Kevin Isom is charged with murder in the August 2007 slayings of his 40-year-old wife, Cassandra, and her teenage son and daughter in their Gary apartment. He is also charged with the attempted murder of four police officers. Gary police raided the apartment following a standoff that lasted nearly four hours.

The trial has been delayed several times over issues including Isom's competency to stand trial, troubles with seating a jury and the death of his lead defense attorney.

The Times reports that jurors will be sequestered during Isom's trial, which is expected to last three to five weeks.
