INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Rick Hite says, despite a shooting inside Lafayette Square Mall Friday night, the mall and the area around it is safe.

"It's been three or four years since we've had anything like that happen," he said.

Friday night , police responded to the mall after several calls were made about shots fired inside.

No one was hurt.

Police arrested a 15-year-old male suspect.

Hite said the shooting would not be tolerated and that they would step up patrols at area malls. Saturday night at Lafayette Square, patrols included the chief himself.

Hite, along with IMPD's northwest district commander, said they were there to let people know that the mall is still safe.

"We just want people to know they can come out," said Commander Brian Mahone of IMPD's North District. "The areas are safe and the police are here. Security is here. We are working with mall management and the surrounding areas."

Police say crime is actually down in that district and the city overall.
